Qualifications

• Candidates MUST have at least one (1) year of solo patrol experience to be considered as a Lateral Officer

• A Colorado P.O.S.T. certification as a Level 1 Peace Officer is required, or Provisional letter from Colorado P.O.S.T. by date of hire

• If POST certified in another state you MUST be able to provide a Provisional Certification letter from Colorado POST by date of hire

• In addition, you MUST complete the provisional process with Colorado POST within six (6) months which includes taking the POST written certification exam and the three (3) skills exams to receive Basic certification in Colorado

• A valid Colorado Driver License and good driving record or the ability to obtain upon hire is required; must have had a Driver License for at least two (2) years

• All applicants must be currently employed full-time by a state, county, or municipal police or sheriff's department as a sworn Police Officer

• Must have the ability to pass all phases of the selection process for Lateral Police Officer

• The ability to successfully complete a background check including but not limited to: criminal history search, drug screen, motor vehicle record (MVR) check, polygraph, psychological and physical examination and physical agility test is required

• And a combination of education and experience to provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities

     • Knowledge of modern police principles, procedures, techniques and equipment

     • Knowledge of human nature, human problems and problem solving methods

     • Good employment history, good moral character

     • Current basic first aid and CPR certification

     • Ability to read and write the English language effectively

     • Interpersonal communications skills which are both effective and reasonable

     • Proficiency in the use of police equipment

     • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people

     • Ability to function effectively over a long period of time and under a variety of conditions

     • Ability to perform work which requires good physical condition

 

Responsibilities

• The duties involve police patrol, criminal investigations, traffic regulation, related law enforcement activities and a wide variety of community services

• Members in this classification work in partnership with the community to identify and resolve issues of concern, provide public safety service to the community in emergencies and maintain peace, safety and order

• Days, evenings, weekend and holiday hours will be required

• Must pass all testing phases to move to Oral Board process

 

Pay Range

Range is $70,000 to 80,000 depending on experience
